Role Purpose: 

The Senior Structures Inspector leads the delivery of the Structures Inspection Programme in Area 5, managing a team of inspectors and sub-contractors and overseeing a £2.2 million annual budget. Key duties include budget management, approving compensation events, and ensuring cost control. The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships. The manager is also responsible for ensuring the quality of inspections, report accuracy, and compliance with health and safety standards.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Manage the Structures Inspectors to plan, programme and undertake Principal, General and Special Structures Inspections in line with agreed timescales, budgets, procedures, standards, guidance and industry best practice.  This to include all highways structures within the M25 DBFO contract including large, complex structures such as the Dartford Crossing.
  • Delivering the full structures inspection portfolio to programme, budget and quality.
  • Oversee the contracted works for structures inspections.
  • Oversee the inspection programme and the inspectors’ progress, updating accordingly
  • Ensure Work Package Plans and all RAMS are in place for inspections, giving guidance to inspectors when required
  • Liaising with the Roadspace Co-ordinator to ensure roadspace, traffic management and access arrangements are in place
  • Ensure inspections are delivered in-line with standards in the M25 DBFO Contract, The Inspection Manual for Highway Structures, DMRB CS-450 and bespoke guidelines.
  • Investigations into new technologies for inspections

 

Who we are looking for?

 

  • Qualified as a Senior Inspector on the Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) or working towards qualification with demonstrable evidence of the core competencies required.
  • Proficient in planning and undertaking all types of Inspections. Experience in planning traffic management and access equipment.
  • Capable of recognising and categorising a broad range of defects to current highways inspection standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate and advise others regarding structures inspections, repair recommendations and reporting.
  • Knowledge of rail possessions and managing the associated BAPA’s
  • Experience of working with and managing projects and programmes
  • Knowledge and experience of the National Highways IAMIS database and Bridge Management Systems
  • Full knowledge and understanding of the latest National Highways inspection codes plus The Inspection Manual for Highway Structures
  • Certified for Confined Spaces, IPAF, PASMA, PTS

Location:

This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximize team collaboration on the project, we therefore expect a minimum of 60% of your time to be spent at a CPS offices.
