The M25 is the busiest section of motorway in Europe and requires careful and efficient planning of work to deliver over £100m of annual investment in the highway infrastructure each year, in addition to planned and reactive maintenance activity.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the connect plus services performance team that manages and improves one of the busiest motorways in Europe – the M25

The main purpose of this role is to support the Business Efficiency Manager in the development and management of the Business Improvement programme, including maintaining up-to-date records and reporting on improvement opportunities and projects.

You will also be supporting the Business Efficiency Manager in the deployment of Lean Tools (eg, 5S, visual management, Daily Lean) and to facilitate/lead Lean improvement projects across the business

Finally you will work closely with the Head of Performance & Quality in collecting and reporting KPI data, and identifying and facilitating KPI Trigger workshops

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Maintain up-to-date records for the Business Improvement pipeline of ideas and projects.
  • Engage with idea proposers to assess and action new improvement ideas
  • Working with the Health and Safety team, process improvement suggestions from the Don’t Walk By system, manage feedback to originators and support improvements where required
  • Carry out process mapping, value stream mapping, identifying inefficiencies in productivity
  • Develop business cases for Lean process improvement projects within the CPS business, including other stakeholders where necessary
  • Engage with Lean Practitioners across the business to assist in the delivery of projects
  • Progress Lean projects that enable the reduction in waste, deliver benefits to the business and align with the digital transformation programme. Collect and analyse data
  • Contribute to Performance and Quality communications across various channels
  • Administration of the BB MyContribution site
  • Engage proactively with National Highways improvement team to share best practice and promote collaboration.
  • Support preparation for the annual Highway Excellence Lean Maturity Assessment (HELMA), and be a part of the CPS team that engages with National Highways at the assessment
  • Report on (Lean) Projects / Champion progress to the management and leadership team as required.
  • Deliver lean projects in line with CPS demand and support other improvement projects as required, utilising technical support from Performance manager where required.

Key knowledge and experience desired:

  • Lean/Continuous Improvement experience (minimum Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated leadership in the delivery of structured business improvement projects with experience leading project teams. Experience of structured root cause analysis methodologies, such as DMAIC, 8D or similar Continuous improvement tools
  • Proficient in working with/supporting colleagues in delivery of their improvements
  • Demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and excellent attention to detail
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to display and explain complex data in an engaging way
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the business
  • Flexibility to work across all sites as required
