About the role
This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and accurate delivery of projects, from pre construction through to practical completion on site. It covers key responsibilities in line with CDM regulations and NEC contract requirements.
The focus begins during the pre construction phase, carrying out practical constructability reviews during design. This continues through the construction phase, ensuring thorough inspection and physical witnessing on site.
You will bring specialist expertise in assessing electrical works within road and infrastructure projects. Working closely with Operations teams, you will help plan safe and cost effective solutions that maintain or improve assets to agreed standards.
The role also involves providing engineering supervision of construction activities. This ensures that design, health and safety, asbestos management and temporary works are delivered in line with agreed processes. You will take responsibility for final construction reviews, signing off completed work and ensuring the health and safety file accurately reflects the finished project.
This position operates independently from framework contractors, with a clear focus on ensuring projects are delivered in line with design, specifications and CPS procedures.
The role can be based at Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms, with travel across the M25 network. Flexibility for occasional night work and weekend activity is required.
What you’ll be doing
- Produce supervision plans for each scheme, including resource requirements, testing, certification and health and safety considerations
- Undertake the role of Supervisor in line with NEC3 and NEC4 contracts
- Review and assess electrical designs and installations, including lighting, traffic signals and power distribution systems
- Ensure compliance with electrical standards, codes and safety regulations
- Work with engineers, contractors and stakeholders to optimise electrical systems
- Identify and resolve conflicts between civil and electrical designs
- Carry out inspections and audits to ensure quality and safety
- Issue instructions to contractors where required, including out of hours
- Review health and safety files using as built information
- Review Construction Phase Plans on behalf of the Client where required
- Ensure full understanding of scheme designs and raise constructability queries
- Review inspection and test plans and agree witnessing requirements
- Witness testing and commissioning activities and maintain accurate records
- Identify and report defects in line with contract requirements
- Verify that workmanship and materials meet specification standards
- Monitor progress and provide advice to the Client Project Manager
- Report risks and issues clearly and in a timely manner
- Provide regular updates on safety, quality, progress and completion
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits and testing
- Attend meetings and site inspections as required
- Maintain high standards of safety and quality throughout construction
- Support resolution of technical challenges on site
- Represent the business professionally and build strong working relationships
- Develop understanding of design to support effective delivery on site
Who we’re looking for
- Experience working closely with construction teams and stakeholders
- NEC3 or NEC4 Supervisor accreditation, or working towards this
- Strong understanding of electrical systems in infrastructure projects
- Degree or HND in Civil or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Experience in the design and construction of highways projects
- Knowledge of BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations is desirable
- ECS card under NHSS8 or a CSCS card
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- A proactive and detail focused approach
- A practical and collaborative approach to problem solving
- Knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and Specification for Highway Works
- Experience working as an NEC Supervisor
- Understanding of traffic management and temporary works
