About the role
Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our Highways Connect Plus Services team.
We have several site offices located across the M25 network, and this role can be based at Blunts Farm, Dartford, Denham, Leatherhead, Scratchwood, South Mimms or Swanley. Travel throughout the network will be required, and a company car is provided.
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager will support the development, implementation and monitoring of processes aimed at managing health, safety and wellbeing risks across the project. The role will help deliver the organisation’s ambition to be a safe and responsible business for our people, supply chain partners and the communities we serve.
Connect Plus Services (CPS) brings together the collective strengths of our parent companies: Balfour Beatty, AtkinsRéalis and Egis Road Operation UK. With around 600 people based across eight locations on the M25 network, we work on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways to manage the operation of the M25 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our responsibilities range from routine maintenance to managing the whole-life requirements of thousands of assets across the network.
What you’ll be doing
This role will be principally responsible for:
- Providing day-to-day management, guidance, support and mentoring to the HSW Advisors.
- Being a visible champion for health, safety and wellbeing across the project, engaging with operatives and managers.
- Overseeing the implementation of organisational HSW standards at a local level, providing feedback to senior HSW Managers on areas for improvement or potential conflicts with business requirements.
- Monitoring the delivery of the communications strategy to ensure health, safety and wellbeing remain high on the operational agenda, and reporting back on the effectiveness of communications.
- Supporting the delivery of appropriate and effective HSW training based on project requirements.
- Supporting and undertaking targeted inspections of the HSW management system and supply chain audits, tracking actions through to completion.
- Managing your own diary and stakeholder communications to plan, schedule and carry out inspections and HSW conversations with site and depot-based teams.
- Preparing and communicating timely reports and presentations detailing performance data and inspection findings, while tracking actions through to completion.
- Positively representing the Health, Safety and Wellbeing function and its strategy during meetings and conference calls.
- Reviewing work activities against safe systems of work, taking appropriate action and providing documented advice where necessary.
- Leading and supporting incident investigations, ensuring incidents are managed effectively and actions are tracked through to completion.
Who we’re looking for
Essential
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as IOSH.
- Previous site-based construction experience.
- Knowledge and experience of working within a highways construction and/or maintenance environment.
- Professional health and safety qualification (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent).
- Current CSCS Card.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Experience managing a team of HSW Advisors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms, with the ability to analyse data, identify trends and prepare reports and graphical presentations.
