About the Role

Join the Connect Plus Services Technology Maintenance Team, where you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and improving Area 5 Technology assets across the M25 — one of the UK’s most critical transport networks. With 15 years remaining on this major infrastructure project, this role offers not only professional growth and variety, but also long-term stability.

As a Technology Maintenance Engineer, you’ll work hands-on with cutting-edge roadside systems including:

  • CCTV
  • Emergency Roadside Telephones (ERT)
  • MIDAS
  • RCC
  • NTIS
  • SVD
  • Traffic Signals
  • Message Signs

You’ll be responsible for ensuring these systems are maintained and repaired to the highest standards, in line with National Highways and Technology Services quality plans. In addition to your technical duties, you’ll provide first-line support to technicians — helping to develop their understanding of the network and offering practical guidance.

What You’ll Be Doing

Operational Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the ‘Zero Harm’ safety process at all times.
  • Provide a customer-focused, service-oriented, and commercially aware approach to work.
  • Ensure systems are maintained and repaired efficiently and effectively, meeting contractual requirements.
  • Accurately capture and enter data into NH ServiceNow.
  • Attend faults and knockdowns, carrying out reactive maintenance including reinstatement of sites, cables, and equipment.
  • Perform fault/failure rectification and maintenance duties as part of the shift/on-call rota, including out-of-hours work.
  • Provide technical liaison for third-party faults.
  • Offer first-line technical support to technicians.
  • Ensure all faults and planned maintenance are completed within contract timescales.
  • Assist subcontractors with work on traffic signal systems and related equipment.
  • Manage employer’s stores, ensuring all stock is correctly booked in and out.
  • Maintain the communications infrastructure to required standards.
  • Record and report any health and safety concerns to your line manager as soon as possible.
  • Manage time and vehicle usage efficiently while on the network.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a motivated and technically skilled individual with the following qualifications and experience:

  • HNC or BTEC Higher National Certificate in Electronics/Telecommunications Engineering (or equivalent), or at least five years’ experience working on motorway communications or closely related systems.
  • NHSS8 Certified.
  • Strong knowledge of National Highways communications infrastructure and standards.
  • Experience with NMCS 2 Communications systems, including MIDAS, CCTV, VMS, ERTs, NTIS, HAWIS, and Traffic Signals.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience working with the NRTS Contractor and familiarity with NRTS ways of working.
  • Flexibility to work across different areas of the network and adapt to varying working approaches.
