About the Role

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to play a pivotal role in driving digital transformation across our Connect Plus Services M25 Joint Venture – Europe’s busiest motorway network.

This position will be central to delivering strategic change programmes and developing innovative solutions to meet evolving business needs.

You will be accountable for the IT architecture underpinning the M25 systems and will lead the development of a comprehensive roadmap, aligned with established architectural principles, to enhance and future‑proof the organisation’s technology landscape.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Enterprise Architect, you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering enterprise architecture processes and principles.
  • Developing an enterprise architecture methodology, including key artefacts.
  • Capturing architecture decisions, outlining rationale and proposing mitigation plans.
  • Providing regular progress updates and status reports to the Head of Business Transformation and Business Planning Director.
  • Running and managing the Technical Design Authority (TDA) to review proposed technical solutions, ensuring effective coding and embedded security.
  • Supporting governance forums such as the Change Board, and contributing regularly to the Portfolio Review Meeting.
  • Identifying, reporting, and tracking architecture risks, issues, and dependencies, escalating where required.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience running enterprise architecture for small to medium‑sized organisations.
  • Strong understanding of established architectural frameworks.
  • Experience supporting delivery of technical solutions and ensuring alignment with business requirements.
  • Ability to present updates at complex governance forums.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to gain senior‑level buy‑in.
  • Experience developing organisation‑wide enterprise architecture strategies and communicating associated roadmaps.
  • Ability to shape enterprise architecture initiatives and activities.
  • Understanding of the M25 business, digital technologies, and their applications.
  • Experience engaging third‑party suppliers to understand their technical solutions and development roadmaps.
  • Ability to identify and track interdependencies.
  • Management of technical debt.
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF).
  • Technical proficiency in:
    • Data platforms (e.g., AWS Redshift, MS SQL Server)
    • BI tools (e.g., Power BI)
    • Scripting languages (SQL, Python/R)

Desirable

  • Information Security experience, with expertise in NIS (Network and Information Systems) regulations and ISO 27001 accreditation.

Location:

This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximize team collaboration on the project, we offer flexible working where you will typically be working from your base CPS office, Leatherhead, Dartford or South Mimms up to three days per week and two days from home.
