About the Role
Balfour Beatty has an opportunity for a Level 0 Emergency Response Team (ERT) Operative to join the team responsible for managing and improving one of Europe’s busiest motorways — the M25. This role is based in Denham, Uxbridge.
You will support the safe and efficient delivery of services across the M25 DBFO Network by carrying out a wide range of incident response, hazard clearance, network maintenance and other operational tasks as required by the Line Manager.
Working Arrangements
- 4‑on, 4‑off rotating shift pattern (4 day shifts and 4 night shifts).
- Day shifts: 05:00–17:00 (including 2×30‑minute breaks).
- Night shifts: 17:00–05:00 (including 2×30‑minute breaks).
- Regular travel across the M25 network and between depots.
- Travel to meetings, training, and work sites outside the usual operational area.
- Participation in out‑of‑hours call‑out rotas (e.g., Winter Maintenance).
What You’ll Be Doing
Carrying out activities, as instructed, to maintain your area of responsibility, including but not limited to:
- Cyclical maintenance
- Carriageway repairs
- Soft estate works (e.g., grass cutting)
- Litter picking
- Sign maintenance
- Cleansing
- Safety fence repairs
- Boundary fence repairs
- Minor civil engineering or remedial tasks (e.g., headwall repair)
- Any other duties allocated by Line Managers
You will also:
- Implement Chapter 8‑compliant Traffic Management in line with CPS policies, method statements, risk assessments and industry standards.
- Produce accurate written and verbal reports and records.
- Use mobile devices to input data accurately for business reporting.
- Complete routine vehicle checks and maintain up‑to‑date driving records in line with CPS procedures and legislation.
- Take due care of CPS property (e.g., tablets, radios, vehicles).
- Raise awareness of any issues affecting safe network operation.
- Ensure traffic management signs, equipment, and materials are in line with maintenance checklists; record and report defects.
- Participate in the Winter Service rota.
- Attend training courses and maintain required competencies.
- Demonstrate Balfour Beatty Values and maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
- Support CPSUK sustainability activities.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- UK Driving Licence (minimum Category C – LGV Class 2)
- CSCS Operative Card
Desirable Qualifications
- UK Driving Licence (Category CE – LGV Class 1)
- Driver Qualification Card (CPC)
- 12AB (Static Temporary Traffic Management on High‑Speed Roads/APTR)
- Traffic Management Foreman (TMF) / Lead Traffic Management Operative (LTMO)
- NHSS Sector 2 A/B Fencing qualification – Lead Installer Status (CPS‑appointed)
- Appropriate lifting qualification
- Vehicle Marshall
- 12AB Impact Protection Vehicle (IPV)
- Other relevant highways or plant certifications
Essential Criteria
- Successful completion of security checks as part of the recruitment process
- Successful annual driving licence check
- Ability to pass pre‑employment and ongoing Drug & Alcohol tests
