About the Role
Join Connect Plus Services and be part of a once‑in‑a‑generation infrastructure project. The M25 is one of the busiest and most important motorway networks in the UK, and with more than 15 years remaining on the contract, this is a unique opportunity to build a stable, long‑term career while helping to keep the country moving. Working alongside Balfour Beatty Highways, you’ll be part of a team responsible for maintaining and operating this critical transport network safely, efficiently and sustainably.
As an HGV Recovery Driver based in Dartford, you will play a vital role in keeping the M25 network moving. You will be on the front line responding to incidents, breakdowns and emergencies, carrying out specialist recovery operations for both heavy and light vehicles. Your work will directly support the safety of road users while helping to minimise disruption across one of the UK’s busiest road networks.
This role offers a structured shift pattern of four shifts on, four shifts off, including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays, giving you a consistent schedule to plan around. You may also be required to travel across the M25 network or between depots where operationally necessary, as well as attend occasional training, meetings or works outside your usual area. As part of the operational team, you will also support winter maintenance activities when required.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an HGV Recovery Driver, you will:
- Respond to incidents, hazards and vehicle breakdowns across the network, providing recovery support and making affected areas safe quickly and efficiently.
- Attend live motorway incidents and carry out recovery operations in line with CPS procedures and risk assessments.
- Support the restoration of normal traffic flow and help maintain a safe environment for road users and colleagues.
You will also undertake a range of operational and maintenance activities that support the safe running of the motorway network, including:
- Debris and safety inspections
- Assisting with carriageway repairs
- Graffiti removal
- Soft estate maintenance (e.g., grass cutting, litter picking, general cleansing)
- Maintaining roadside signs and highway assets
You will lead or assist with the recovery of heavy and light vehicles using specialist equipment such as underlifts, winches and cranes, ensuring all operations are completed safely and professionally.
The role also includes:
- Accurate reporting using mobile devices
- Completing routine vehicle and equipment checks
- Keeping all recovery equipment in safe working order
- Reporting issues that may impact road safety or network performance
- Supporting sustainability initiatives
- Contributing to Balfour Beatty’s Zero Harm commitment
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a reliable, safety‑focused individual who is confident working in a hands‑on operational environment and responding to live incidents on a busy motorway network.
You must have:
- A full UK driving licence with Category C+E (LGV Class 1)
- IVR Levels 1, 2 and 3
- Experience recovering both heavy and light vehicles on live motorway or All Purpose Trunk Road networks
- Proficiency in the safe use of equipment including underlifts, winches and cranes
Experience in highways, traffic, transport or vehicle recovery environments would be highly beneficial.
