About the Role
At Connect Plus Services, we manage and maintain the strategic infrastructure of the M25 motorway, one of the busiest and most complex road networks in Europe. Working in partnership with National Highways, our teams are responsible for ensuring the network operates safely, efficiently and reliably for millions of users every day.
We are looking for a Senior Structures Engineer / Design Coordinator to join our Engineering Design Team, supporting the management and improvement of critical structures across the M25 network. This role will primarily focus on the Dartford Crossing, including the two Dartford tunnels and the QEII Bridge—some of the most strategically important assets on the UK road network.
This is a highly varied position combining design coordination, engineering assurance and site engagement. You will coordinate design and construction activities across multiple schemes, working closely with project teams, external consultants and framework contractors to deliver safe, practical and cost‑effective engineering solutions within a live operational highway environment.
Operating within the complex environment of the Dartford assets, you will help challenge and develop design proposals, review construction methodologies and ensure engineering solutions enhance safety, performance and long‑term asset resilience.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Coordinating and managing design activities across a range of structures and mechanical and electrical improvement schemes, ensuring outputs align with programme requirements and operational constraints.
- Reviewing and challenging design proposals from framework contractors and consultants to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, specifications and CPS engineering standards before submission to National Highways.
- Managing external design consultants to ensure delivery against agreed scope, programme and budget.
- Acting as the key engineering interface between site operations and the wider design and engineering teams, including attending regular site visits.
- Supporting construction activities by reviewing control plans, ensuring specification compliance and resolving technical queries during delivery.
- Supporting engineering optioneering and feasibility studies, identifying innovative solutions that improve safety, constructability and whole‑life performance.
- Contributing to the preparation and review of contract documentation and supporting asset management planning.
- Ensuring lessons learned and best practice are captured and shared across the business.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking an experienced engineer with strong experience in highways structures, complex infrastructure or civil engineering environments. You will be confident coordinating design activities while maintaining close engagement with site operations, ensuring engineering solutions are practical, safe and deliverable within a live operational network.
Key strengths required include:
- Strong technical and analytical capability, with confidence to review and challenge design proposals.
- Experience managing consultants and coordinating engineering outputs across multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with project managers, asset teams, construction teams and external partners including National Highways.
- A solid understanding of design assurance processes, construction methodologies and safety requirements within infrastructure environments.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and health and safety legislation, with the ability to contribute to safety‑by‑design principles and support the delivery of Zero Harm.
You should hold a relevant engineering qualification such as BEng, MEng, HNC or HND in civil, structural or a related discipline. Membership of a professional institution such as ICE, IET or IMechE would be advantageous.
