About the role
As a Highways Safety Inspector (HSI) and Soft Estates Supervisor, you’ll support the Highways Safety Inspector Team and the safe delivery of Soft Estates activities across then M25 network. Your leadership will ensure planned and reactive operations run smoothly, challenges are resolved, and targets are consistently met.
Leading a team of Highways Safety Inspectors and internal/external Soft Estate operational teams you’ll promote a safety-first culture where everyone is committed to doing their work in the right way. You’ll ensure teams are appropriately briefed, working efficiently, and have the right resources to succeed.
You’ll also support the delivery of various inspection regimes, ensuring high
standards of work are maintained across all activities, and you’ll contribute to
rectifying High Priority Defects and customer complaints.
Your effective leadership and focus on continuous improvement will support the long-term success of the M25 network, ensuring it remains safe, resilient and in top condition.

As a key leader in our operations team, you’ll play a vital role in keeping one of the UK’s most important transport networks running safely, smoothly, and sustainably. You’ll:

Champion safety and wellbeing by leading daily briefings, identifying risks, and ensuring best practices are followed on every shift.

Supervise and support your team in delivering a wide range of essential tasks—from grass cutting and arboriculture to highway inspections and winter services.

Ensure your team is well-resourced, well-informed, and empowered to succeed, while fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard.

Guide and mentor team members through clear communication, constructive feedback, and people-focused management.

Use digital tools and reporting systems to capture insights, track progress, and drive continuous improvement.

Help shape a safer, more sustainable network by contributing to our Zero Harm and environmental goals.
Who We’re Looking For – Key Requirements

A valid CSCS qualification relevant to the role

SMSTS or SSSTS certification

Experience in highways maintenance or a related field with transferable skills

Proven team leadership abilities, with a focus on motivating and supporting others

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

A strong customer-focused approach, always aiming for high standards

A UK driver’s license to travel across our sites
Working Arrangements
Expected to work Mon-Fri, days
May be expected to works nights occasionally, where the relevant uplifts will apply.
Day shifts are 07:00 to 16:00, night shifts are 20:30 to 05:30 with a 45-minute break
Reasonable level of travel around M25 network. Travel to meetings, training and works sites outside normal operational area. Expected to participate in out of hours call out rotas e.g. Winter Maintenance.

Location:
This is a hybrid role designed to fully maximize team collaboration on the project, we offer flexible working where you will typically be working from your base CPS office, Leatherhead, Dartford or South Mimms up to three days per week and two days from home.
