Join Balfour Beatty’s CPS team as a Finance Business Partner and build something to be proud of. The role can be based from either South Mimms or Leatherhead.
You will be responsible for supporting the Financial Manager through the provision of meaningful and accurate financial information, alongside insightful interpretation and analysis.
The role will partner with key Directorates and cost centres, supporting them in achieving their financial objectives. You will communicate wider business goals through the budgeting process and help cost centre managers take ownership of their financial performance through education, participation in target setting and monthly performance reviews.
As part of the senior management team supporting the relevant Directorates and cost centres, you will lead and embrace change, helping to drive continuous improvement and embed a culture focused on both operational delivery and financial performance. You will ensure robust cost capture at project level, fully reconciled to management accounts, and represent the relevant Directorates and cost centres at SMT and Finance SLT meetings.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Responsible for budgeting, forecasting and reporting the financial performance of the relevant cost centres.
- Coach and support cost centre managers to take ownership of budget delivery through education and engagement.
- Challenge the quality of financial inputs to ensure robust and accurate reporting.
- Manage Work in Progress (WIP) where appropriate, ensuring prompt conversion of work performed into cash.
- Maintain the Risk & Opportunities schedule for the relevant Directorates.
- Track and manage finance-related queries.
- Lead monthly internal financial reviews with Directorate and cost centre leads.
- Represent Directorates at Senior Management Team Finance Reviews.
- Support cost centre leads with finance-related issues.
- Assist with project financial management, including detailed variance analysis and cost reallocations where required.
- Undertake annual reviews of processes and procedures to eliminate waste and improve efficiency.
- Work closely with Commercial Managers to validate subcontractor costs and ensure robust accrual management.
- Support the development of skills and capabilities across the wider Finance team.
- Produce monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and supporting commentary.
- Deliver internal financial reporting, highlighting performance, opportunities and risks against budget.
- Support cost centre managers in preparation for Finance SLT meetings.
- Manage the Staff Utilisation process, including monthly reviews of time recovery and reconciliation against budget assumptions.
- Identify, investigate and resolve reporting anomalies.
- Produce ad hoc financial reports as required.
- Maximise Directorate profitability through effective time recording and cost recovery.
- Reduce transaction miscoding through education, review and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the opening and closing of task numbers to ensure consistency and avoid duplication.
- Own the reciprocal invoicing process between Connect Plus Services and Connect Plus to maximise cash flow and minimise WIP.
- Live and demonstrate CPS Values.

- Support the delivery of CSUK Sustainability activities.
Who We’re Looking For
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified.
- Understanding of information requirements for different stakeholder groups.
- Proven track record of producing high-quality internal financial reports.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Experience of managing and implementing change, including LEAN methodologies or similar approaches.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels.
- Team-building and leadership capability.
- Ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation.
