About the role
Balfour Beatty is looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join our Highways Connect Plus Services team. We have several site offices across the M25 network, and this role can be based at Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms. Regular travel throughout the network will also be required.
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of processes aimed at managing health, safety and wellbeing risks across the project. The role will support the organisation’s ambition to be a safe and responsible business for our people, supply chain partners and the communities we serve.
Connect Plus Services (CPS) brings together the collective strengths of our parent companies: Balfour Beatty, AtkinsRéalis and Egis Road Operation UK. With around 600 people based across eight locations on the M25 network, we work on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways to manage the operation of the M25 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our responsibilities range from routine maintenance to managing the whole-life requirements of thousands of assets across the network.
What you’ll be doing
This role will be principally responsible for:
- Being a visible champion for health, safety and wellbeing across the project, engaging with operatives and managers.
- Overseeing the implementation of organisational HSW standards at a local level, providing feedback to HSW Managers on areas for improvement or potential conflicts with business requirements.
- Monitoring the delivery of the communications strategy to ensure health, safety and wellbeing remain high on the operational agenda, and reporting back to HSW Managers on the effectiveness of communications.
- Supporting the delivery of appropriate and effective HSW training based on project needs.
- Monitoring and managing the close-out of Health, Safety and Wellbeing Don’t Walk By (DWB) observations.
- Supporting and undertaking targeted inspections of the HSW management system and supply chain audits, tracking actions through to completion.
- Managing your own diary and stakeholder communications to plan, schedule and conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site and depot-based teams.
- Preparing and communicating timely reports and presentations detailing performance data, inspection findings and DWB observations, while tracking actions through to close-out.
- Positively representing the Health, Safety and Wellbeing function and its strategy during meetings and conference calls.
- Reviewing work activities against safe systems of work, taking appropriate action and providing documented advice where necessary.
- Supporting incident investigations, ensuring incidents are managed effectively and actions are tracked through to completion.
Who we’re looking for
Essential requirements:
- Professional health and safety qualification (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent).
- Current CSCS Card.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Ability to maintain a regular presence during night shifts and weekends when required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms, with the ability to analyse data, identify trends and prepare graphs and reports.
- Previous site-based construction experience.
Desirable
- Experience of working within a joint venture environment.
- Previous experience facilitating meetings using digital platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Skype.
