About the Role
As the Planned Maintenance Manager, you’ll take the lead in delivering a safe and efficient £3m Annual Maintenance Programme across the M25 network. Your team will be responsible for maintaining key linear assets, including pavements, VRS, barriers and fences, signs, and road markings within your geographical area.
You’ll manage a team of around 40 maintenance professionals and oversee subcontractor activities, fostering a culture where safety and quality are paramount. Public safety will always be at the forefront as you proactively mitigate risks, conduct regular depot and site inspections, and ensure the safe deployment of resources.
In addition, you’ll support the Defect Team to ensure timely repairs and collaborate closely with the Roadspace/Scheduling Hub to keep the programme on track. You’ll also manage the planned maintenance budget for your area, monitor progress, and identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising quality.
Your leadership and commitment to continuous improvement will help maintain the M25 network as safe, resilient, and in excellent condition.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of the annual maintenance programme within your area, ensuring activities are completed on time and within budget.
- Ensure accurate data entry into the maintenance management system and provide network knowledge to help shape the annual maintenance plan.
- Work closely with the Roadspace/Scheduling Hub to monitor roadspace status, keeping the programme on track with minimal changes and resolving issues promptly.
- Identify opportunities for site sharing to enable efficient service delivery.
- Define clear work requirements for each maintenance site to manage network risks effectively.
- Support the Reactive Maintenance Lead with timely and efficient completion of Cat 2.1 repairs by providing resources and identifying works coordination opportunities.
- Continuously improve driver standards to meet key BB reporting metrics.
- Actively monitor vehicle utilisation and oversee fleet management to ensure efficiency and maximise availability.
- Support the Commercial team with supplier procurement and performance management, building a resilient, high-quality, and cost-effective maintenance supply chain.
- Ensure adequate supervision for all works activities and manage internal resources efficiently.
- Participate in on-call rotas for Silver Command and Winter Maintenance as required.
- Manage and develop a high-performing team by providing clarity of responsibilities, monitoring performance, and supporting growth and development.
- Ensure team members are well-equipped for their roles by monitoring and implementing all necessary training.
Who We’re Looking For
- Experience in delivering highways maintenance operations or similar transferable experience.
- Appropriate CSCS qualification.
- SMSTS qualification.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in driving performance and productivity.
- Ability to adapt to and manage change, leading teams through operational adjustments and ensuring smooth transitions.
