About the Role

The Project Manager delivers project objectives across six key areas of performance: Health and Safety, Quality, Cost, Environment, Delivery and People.

We are looking for a dynamic and self‑motivated individual with a strong project background to join a fast‑paced team, delivering complex highways and technology schemes throughout the full project lifecycle. Schemes range in value from £100k to £3m+ and include safety schemes, environmental improvements, technology schemes, remedial works and junction improvement schemes.

This role offers flexible working and can be based out of Leatherhead, South Mimms or Dartford, with travel to project sites or other offices as required.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Stakeholder management: Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the Portfolio Manager, Senior Project Manager, Construction and Supervisor teams, and key internal and external stakeholders. Ensure a shared understanding of project delivery objectives, regularly review performance, and agree solutions to issues.
  • Maintain compliance with the DBFO contract by clarifying roles and responsibilities within the team, resolving risks and issues in a timely manner, producing accurate and timely reports, and creating and maintaining specified records, including change management documentation.
  • Design, agree and implement project plans to ensure all activities are appropriately organised and resourced to deliver project objectives and required outcomes.
  • Lead and oversee programmes through the full lifecycle, including feasibility, design, construction and handover, informing investment proposals for clients at each stage.
  • Contribute to the development of robust cost profiles by identifying key risks and quantifying resource requirements.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging risks, issues, dependencies and constraints, escalating where appropriate and developing agreed solutions to address them.
  • Commission and manage the performance of Framework Contractors and Designers, ensuring project objectives and requirements are clearly understood, expectations are set for health and safety, time and cost, and appropriate remedial action is taken where required.
  • Support delivery of the business’s sustainability activities, including net zero and biodiversity net gain.
  • Work closely with the Construction and Supervisor teams to ensure permits, certificates and site reporting are managed correctly and aligned to project needs.
  • Manage NEC Contract Options in the role of Project Manager.

Essential Experience and Qualities

  • Experience of managing project teams to successfully develop multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with integrity and experience managing relationships with multiple stakeholders, and the ability to influence positive outcomes.
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to manage contracts and drive project performance.
  • High resilience, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and setbacks constructively.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, ensuring clarity around project strategies and solutions.
  • Experience managing agreed project plans and detailed stage plans in collaboration with Framework Contractors, Designers and internal partners.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or coaching junior team members to develop project management capability.
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics.
  • A proven, solution‑focused approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to understand the wider business vision and inspire a shared sense of purpose within the team.

Preferable Qualifications

  • Membership of a professional management body, such as APM.
  • Formal qualification at BSc or MSc level in management or construction, or equivalent experience.
  • APM PFQ, PMQ or PPQ.
  • CSCS and SMSTS, or equivalent.
  • A current driving licence.
