You will be responsible for the cyclic maintenance and fault rectification of essential roadside technology systems, including CCTV, Emergency Roadside Telephones, MIDAS, RCC, NTIS, HAWIS, traffic signals and message signs. All work will be delivered in accordance with quality plans and contractual requirements set by National Highways and Connect Plus Services.

You will supervise and manage a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring effective workload distribution, performance management and compliance with operational standards. This includes responsibility for timesheets, annual leave, sickness and absence management.
You will support field teams by attending jobs when required, providing technical guidance and ensuring all activities meet contractual KPIs and quality expectations. You will carry out cyclic maintenance and fault rectification on roadside technology assets, attending faults, knockdowns and corrective maintenance activities, including full site and equipment reinstatement.
A key part of your role will be developing and implementing fault‑reduction strategies, ensuring accurate data capture in ServiceNow, and maintaining detailed asset and maintenance records. You will liaise regularly with control offices, regional control centres and traffic operations centres, and attend meetings when required.
You will maintain technical proficiency in National Highways systems and software, ensure compliance with NHSS8 sector scheme requirements, and manage regional portfolios in line with CPS standards. You will also respond to emergencies in accordance with agreed procedures, provide technical support for third‑party faults and ensure all equipment is securely logged, stored and maintained.
You will work closely with partners and stakeholders—including Balfour Beatty, Atkins, Egis and supply chain organisations—to support consistent and high‑quality service delivery.
Who We’re Looking For
You will have:
- An HNC or BTEC Higher National Certificate in electronics or telecommunications engineering, or an agreed equivalent qualification, supported by significant industry experience; or
- A minimum of eight years’ experience working on motorway communications or closely related systems.
You will also bring:
- NHSS8 certification
- Strong knowledge of National Highways communications infrastructure, standards and testing requirements (including ADAMr)

- Proven people‑management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate and develop a small technical team
