Blog: net zero training and carbon workshops

By Elleanor Harris, Carbon Manager, Connect Plus Services.

As a business, we have taken a proactive and structured approach to sustainability, embedding carbon reduction into our core operations.

A key initiative has been the delivery of 18 Net zero training and carbon workshops. Throughout these sessions, we have so far educated 219 participants: including internal staff and external supply chain partners on topics such as climate science, emissions management, and practical reduction strategies.

To embed this into the business, we have now rolled this out as mandatory to all new starter inductions, whilst continuing across our existing teams and supplychain.

The workshops not only enhance understanding but also inspire tangible behaviour change and actions. Our approach combines education, collaboration and action, creating measurable environmental impacts. Participants are trained to understand and apply tools in real-world contexts, improving carbon literacy across the organisation and supply chain.

Feedback highlighted a shift in mindset, with participants committing to improved material choices, waste minimisation, energy efficient technologies and sustainable project planning. Furthermore, 100% of participants claimed that the presentation was easy to grasp and 98% would recommend the training to a colleague.

A key environmental benefit is demonstrated by our supplier Tarmac, influenced by the training, who secured funding for an electric bond coat sprayer which significantly reducing operational emissions.

Our ongoing commitment ensures that sustainability is a long-term priority, embedded across teams and supply chains. This integrated strategy delivers demonstrable carbon reduction and aligns with wider industry goals.
