Highway Heroes – finalists announced

We are especially proud to announce that four of our colleagues, Nancy Norris, Lacey Nash, Neil Dunkling and Nigel Railton, have been shortlisted for the prestigious Highways Heroes Awards 2025.
These unique awards recognise those who have gone above and beyond their duty to help someone or improve a situation, either in the communities they work in or to unconditionally support fellow workers in their team.
Nancy was nominated for her crucial support she provided to a driver suffering a crisis, having noticed them parked in an unusual spot. Nancy went above and beyond, she didn’t hesitate but offered calm reassurance, stayed present, and created a safe space where the driver could begin to stabilise emotionally and mentally.
Lacey was recognised for creating the invaluable CPS Carers Group. Through this group, she has made a meaningful difference in the lives of many staff members by providing support and a judgement-free space where carers feel seen, heard and valued. Recognising a significant and often overlooked need within the industry, Lacey took the initiative to design and lead this group for employees who care for children, loved ones, individuals with disabilities, or those living with long-term health conditions. This includes not only direct carers but also the supporters of carers, who themselves face unique emotional and logistical challenges.
Neil was nominated for his swift action in preventing what could have been a tragic incident when he saw an individual walking towards the main carriageway. He then engaged with the person, preventing her from gaining full access to the live carriageway, acting with great courage and empathy.
Nigel was recognised for going above and beyond in managing a challenging customer in crisis on a bridge. Nigel acted with utmost compassion, respect and confidence, despite the intense pressure.
A huge well done and congratulations, the awards will be held on 26th November.
