International Women’s Day 2026
International Women’s Day is a moment to recognise the achievements of women everywhere and to reflect on the ongoing effort required to achieve true equality This year’s theme, Give To Gain, highlights how progress grows when we share our time, support, knowledge, and opportunities.
We’re proud of the women across our organisation who contribute their skills, leadership, and perspectives every day. To mark the day, some of our colleagues have shared what International Women’s Day means to them, along with their experiences and advice for others building a career in our industry.
Nicola Steele (Head of Environmental and Sustainability)
Nicola reflects on how fortunate many women are today to have access to education and careers, while recognising that this isn’t the reality for everyone. “International Women’s Day is about celebrating how far women’s emancipation has come, but also remembering our sisters who are not so fortunate.”
Working in sustainability gives Nicola a strong sense of purpose, especially knowing that climate change disproportionately affects women and girls. “I’m trying to do what I can to reduce our impact on climate change and reduce potential future climate extremes.”
Siobhan Armstrong (Performance Manager)
For Siobhan, International Women’s Day is a reminder of progress and self-belief. “It’s a moment to pause and acknowledge the contributions women continue to make. It’s also a reminder to have confidence in your voice.”
Her advice to women entering the industry is “Don’t overthink it. The industry isn’t as daunting as it appears from the outside, and there’s more diversity in roles than people expect. Confidence grows with experience - you don’t have to walk in knowing everything.”
Tracey Arnold (Customer Service Manager)
Tracey sees International Women’s Day as a moment of gratitude. “It reminds me of the women who’ve shaped my life - those who’ve supported me, inspired me, and shown me what strength looks like.”
Her advice to women entering her field is “Trust your voice and don’t be afraid to use it. Step outside your comfort zone - you’ve got this!” She believes in asking questions, speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, and surrounding yourself with people who uplift you.
Amy Griffiths (Information Security Officer)
For Amy, International Women’s Day is “a day to celebrate women’s achievements and raise awareness of women’s equality.”
Her message to women considering a career in the industry is “There’s a place for everyone. Don’t underestimate how your existing strengths can translate.” She highlights the wide range of opportunities available beyond traditional on‑site roles.
Lacey Nash (Project Manager)
Lacey sees International Women’s Day as a chance to recognise women’s contributions across all sectors - especially in industries where women remain the minority. As a full‑time carer and mum, flexibility has been essential for Lacey. “I’m grateful to work somewhere that understands that and allows me to balance both my family and my career.”
Her advice to women entering the industry is bold and encouraging: “Engineering and construction are not ‘male’ careers - they’re for anyone with curiosity, determination and a willingness to learn.” She hopes to see stereotypes challenged earlier, particularly in schools, so more women feel confident exploring careers in the sector.
Frances Boast (Professional Services Delivery Manager)
For Fran, International Women’s Day is “an opportunity to celebrate the women in our lives and their achievements.” She feels most supported at work when she can look around and see others like her - “people who understand what it’s like to sometimes be the only woman in the room, and the importance of offering encouragement to one another.”
Fran believes it’s vital that the industry continues pushing for equal treatment and attracting more women into the sector. “That means breaking down barriers to entry, challenging outdated expectations and creating a culture where everyone, regardless of gender, is valued and recognised.”
